Review: American Airlines B777-300ER Business Class Miami - Dallas (Short-haul)

November 21, 2016

American Airlines 2305 Miami (MIA) - Dallas (DFW) Departure: 0710 Arrival: 0836 Duration: 2:26 Aircraft: Boeing B777-323(ER)

Registration: N736AT Seat: 15J (Business Class)

On this return flight to Dallas, I was flying the same aircraft which I flew in the first class cabin the day before. American Airline had a great promotion selling business as economy so I was took a chance to experience AA's wonderful business class. I am writing this review pretty short since some of the aircraft's details are summarized on my first class review.

The Cabin:

American Airlines' Boeing B777-200s have business class configured in front and rear-sided seats but I prefer this -300ER since the cabin looks more neat and simple compared to dizzy looking -200s.

Business class cabin is divided into two section: Mini and main. The mini cabin is more private since there are only two rows but it looks little compact. Similar to the first class cabin I have reviewed, the business cabin was dim due to the color of the seat and carpet but the cabin was more than satisfactory. There is also a walk-up bar that can be used for premium passengers by door 2.

The Seat:

Similar Business class seats on American Airlines B77W can be found in Cathay Pacific fleets. These reverse herringbone seats provides excellent privacy due the the position facing inward. There are 52 fully-flat bed business class seats in 1-2-1 direct aisle configuration with each seat having maximum of 78 inches of width and 26 inches of pitch. Pitch can be increased slightly if the movable armrest by the aisle is lowered.

Numbers of storage spaces are available in the seat: The footrest area and under the tray table. The wooden finishes and the comfortable seat cushion make the seat premium. All the controllers i.e. seat controller, IFE remote controller are located all together, attached on the side of the compartment.

In-Flight Meals:

This business class seat was sold as economy class so melas were sold during the flight but passengers got a biscuit and a drink for refreshment. I do not really buy paid meals on short flight unless I am really hungry but all of a sudden, one of the cabin crew whom I met yesterday, came to me and gave me a breakfast set. She was the cabin crew who explained and took me a tour of the B77W cabin the day before.

In-Flight Entertainment:

Business class IFEs have same contents as first class with more than 1000 different entertainments available. The IFE monitor was 15.4 inches and touch screen while the remote controller was not touch screen but a normal Panasonic eX2 controller.

On a long-haul flights, business class passengers receive a noise cancelling headphones for use but on this flight I had to use my own ear buds. Wi-fi is available throughout the flight but again, it is still considered pricey compared to other

Lavatory:

There are 3 lavatories for business class passengers which are located: One, at the mini business cabin and the other two at the last row of main business cabin. The design of lavatories were somewhat similar to the ones in first class with a sensor type tap and solid white ceramic sink.

Summary:

Thanks to American Airlines' special fares, it was a great experience trying out the business class in economy price. Since the business class cabin was sold as Main Cabin Extra, same economy class rules were applied. A lot of passengers took advantage on this promotion so the business cabin was pretty full.

On this return flight to Dallas, I met the same cabin crew members who were extremely kind when I was in the first class the day before and were glad to see me back on board again. This time they were having duties on business class section. I have mentioned on my first class flight but again I would like to thank them for the tours and in flight services on both sectors.

I am a fan of reverse herringbone seats and trying out the one in American Airlines was all new experience. I still did not try out long-haul flights with American's wide-body fleets so I am planning to book a longer flights to either Hong Kong or London!
