Review: Qatar Airways B777-300ER First Class Doha - Cairo - Doha (Short-haul)

January 13, 2017

Qatar Airways 1303, 1304 Doha(DOH) - Cairo (CAI) - Doha (DOH) Departure: 0917(DOH) 1412(CAI), Arrival: 1139(CAI), 1728(DOH) Duration: 3:22, 2:16 Aircraft: Boeing B777-3DZ(ER)

Registration: A7-BAQ Seat: 6J, 4K (First Class)

On this review , I have combined both of my flights since the flight was just a quick turn from Doha to Cairo and back to Doha. Originally, I booked a flight in the evening the same day with an A330 but I decided to change since there was nothing to do for hours in Cairo Airport.

A month ago as well as an hour ago, I have used the exactly same aircraft from Doha to Cairo. Compared to the flight I took a month ago, this flight departed and returned in the morning and afternoon. Only the flight I took a month ago has a different registration number (A7-BAO).

Unlike other Boeing B777-300ERs Qatar Airways have, this 1 year old B77W has a usual 2-2-2 configuration in the business class but a 3-3-3 configuration in the economy class. There are total of 335 seats: 42 business class seats and 293 economy class. Compared to the 3-4-3, 10 abreast seating on most of Qatar Airways' fleet, this one is much more comfortable for economy class passengers. The seat pitch and width on business class are same as other 777 series(78" and 21.8") but in economy class, the width increased about an inch since it is 9 abreast but the pitch varies according the the location(31-33" and 18").

The Cabin:

Since the flight was departing in the afternoon and arriving around sunset, there is a noticeable amount mood lighting turned on throughout the cabin. On my outbound flight I was seated on the aft cabin(Seat 6J) and 4K on return. The cabin on B77W are divided into two sections: Row 1-4 and row 5-7. Some say it is divided into main and mini cabin but I think they are both same since both sections have similar number of rows.

The Seat:

Going outbound on seat 6J, I went inbound to Doha on seat 4K. As you can notice on the above picture, there is no window right beside the seat on all B77W's row 4. But since there are two more in the front section, I do not find it uncomfortable as you still can bend yourself forward and see outside. Other than that, you can read more details on my QR1302 flight I took last month.

In-flight Meals:

A welcome selection of nuts and drink was served after takeoff, followed by appetizers and mains. I heard from one of the cabin crew that the in-flight menu changes every three months so as I was expecting, it turns out the exact same menus I had a month ago was served on my Cairo-Doha return flight. You can take a look at the breakfast menu below.

In-flight Entertainments:

Oryx One entertainment system are available to my favorite Panasonic IFE system. The 17 inch touch screen monitor are installed and a three-pin noise cancelling headset are all ready for the short flight.

Lavatory:

There are total of 4 lavatories in the first/business class section with the lavatories by door 2L,R bigger than the one near door 1. Rituals amenity kits are provided and toothbrush and shaving kits inside the drawer.

Summary:

I have combined my Doha-Cairo flight with this review because it is such a short haul flight and the flight is exactly the same. The service was more likely a "Business Class" and preparing two-course meal for all the passengers are no easy job but the service from the flight attendants were flawless and five-star.
